Are you looking for the best vegan chocolate chips brands to buy? Or for vegan white chocolate chips for your baking recipes?
In today’s article we are going to be talking about the best non-dairy chocolate chips brands that you can buy from. You can even buy them all at your local Walmart!
Chocolate is easily one of the hardest things to replace on a vegan diet. This is because most brands of chocolate include either milk or milk fat in their recipe. This can make it hard to continue to enjoy those chocolaty treats. This is also a common problem for those who are lactose intolerant.
The good thing is that there are now more vegan brands of chocolate chips then there ever has been before. So, we have plenty of excellent options to choose from.
So, keep reading to find out which brands of vegan friendly chocolate chips you should be buying.
The Best Vegan Chocolate Chips Brands
I tried to only include the most affordable and realistic non-dairy chocolate chips in this list of brands.
There are many brands out there that offer vegan friendly chocolate chips, but many are wildly overpriced for practically the same product.
Which is why I have limited this list to the more affordable variety of brands. All are still just as good and are great quality chocolate chips. They just won’t break your budget in two!
I know that idea of a vegan diet being expensive is part of why many never go vegan. Which is why I always try to recommend affordably vegan foods when I can.
Because I live on a budget as well and know just how expensive these brands can feel. And I never only want to recommend brands that are merely overpriced because they have a healthy or vegan label on them!
The Great Value brand of vegan chocolate chips is fairly new to me as I had never bothered to look at the list of ingredients.
I always just assumed that they contained milk, but I was very wrong!
Not only does this brand have amazing vegan options of dairy-free chocolate chips, it is also organic. And contains very few ingredients.
In my book, the fewer the ingredients the better!
With Great Value you can buy the semi-sweet allergy friendly chocolate chips which are richer with some bitterness. Great for very chocolaty desserts or for those who don’t want their chocolate as sweet.
You also have the option of the semi-sweet chocolate chips which are perfect in baking sweets. Such as brownies and vegan chocolate chip cookies.
Price: $3.44 for 10 Oz.
Enjoy Life is a brand that carries several options of vegan chocolate chips.
They are all natural and have a very limited number of ingredients that creates high quality non-dairy chocolate chips.
Perfect for making mini vegan chocolate chip cookies or chunky chocolate chip cookies!
Price: $4.43 – $4.88 for 9 – 10 oz.
Nestle Toll House
Nestle Toll House is a very high-quality brand of chocolate chips that has been around for a very long time.
And they have even released a line of allergen free chocolate chips that us vegans can now enjoy!
They also have a very small list of ingredients which is great.
Price: $4.12 for 9 – 10 oz.
Simple Truth offers good options of vegan chocolate chips in their allergy friendly line of products.
They are also organic and free of preservatives, which is always a good thing to look for in packaged foods.
You can get their semi-sweet non-dairy chocolate chips. That is the only vegan flavor that they have that I am aware of.
Price: $4.10 for 10 oz.
Chocolate Dream is a well-known vegan brand that has all kinds of chocolate options. From chocolate bars to pints of vegan ice cream.
They offer a semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips option.
They are a little hard to find though you may be able to get them in your local grocery store. They are a bit harder to track down online but I think they can be found in most Walmarts.
Price: $4.79 for 10 oz.
Vegan White Chocolate Chips Brands
Some of the hardest kinds of non-dairy chocolate to find by far is vegan white chocolate chips.
Very few brands offer vegan white chocolate because white chocolate is made with milk as one of the main ingredients.
But if you are like me and have always loved white chocolate, you still might get those old cravings.
The good thing is that there are still a few brands out there that offer white baking chips. Not quite as good as white chocolate but they still do the trick!
So, here are two brands that offer vegan white chocolate chips.
Nestle Toll House
Because Nestle Toll House now offers a line of allergen free chocolate chips, they also have vegan white chocolate baking chips.
I haven’t yet gotten to taste these for myself, but I would imagine that they taste similar to most white baking chips. They won’t have that typical white chocolate flavor as they don’t contain milk.
These are great if you need white chocolate for a recipe or just want to have some vegan white chocolate chips to much on!
Price: $4.48 for 9 oz.
One product from the Great Value brand that I have been using up like crazy is their white baking chips.
Though these aren’t exactly like pure white chocolate they make an excellent vegan white chocolate chips option.
It is hard to find good vegan chocolate and it is ten times as hard to find vegan white chocolate. This is because white chocolate is almost only ever made with milk ingredients.
These white baking chips remind me of how the white chocolate Easter bunnies used to taste. You know, the very generic kind that wasn’t made with good quality white chocolate.
I find these chips to be perfect in recipes that call for white chocolate. I also like to add them to semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips in order to get something closer to milk chocolate.
Price: $3.44 for 10 oz.
How to Use Vegan Chocolate Chips
There are so many uses that you can find for chocolate chips once you get your hands on the dairy free variety.
So many more uses than just adding to cookies or muffins. And the fact that we now have so many vegan options of chocolate makes it that much easier to create delicious vegan baked goods to wow our friends and family.
Vegan chocolate chips should most certainly become a staple item in your vegan pantry and here’s why.
Chocolate chips are a great ingredient to have around in order to add some extra sweetness to your recipes.
Sure, their great in chocolate chip cookies but why not add them to rocky road brownies or to your homemade cookie dough as well? Or toss them into your morning pancakes or stack of waffles?
You could even melt them down and drizzle the liquidy chocolate over cakes and muffins or use them to make hot chocolate.
The options are endless! Here are just a few easy ways to use up some chocolate chips:
- Waffles and pancakes
- Quick breads
Chocolate chips don’t just come in handy in baking, but they can also be used to make candy!
This is especially useful when you are trying to adapt old candy recipes to be vegan. As these chocolate chips work just like dairy chocolate chips would.
I use chocolate chips more in candy making then I do in baking because they work that well! My favorite method is to combine semi-sweet chips with white chips to create my own dairy-free milk chocolate that I can use in candy making!
If a candy recipe calls for chocolate you can most certainly replace that chocolate with dairy-free chocolate chips. It won’t make any difference at all as long as you use the chocolate as it should be and avoid burning it.
Here are just a few ways that you can use chocolate chips in candy recipes:
- Chocolate bark
- Chocolate caramels
- Chocolate coated candy
- Peanut butter balls
- Chocolate turtles
That is the end of the list of vegan chocolate brands that carry non-dairy chocolate chips.
Were you surprised by any of these options? Or have you tried any of these chocolate chip brands? If so, did you like them? I know that most of my personal favorite brands are on this list!
I have used most of these types of chocolate chips and have been happy with all of them. For the most part they are all very similar and work similarly. Which means that you can buy the cheapest options if necessary without having to really sacrifice any quality.
I would easily recommend any of these brands to vegan beginners looking for their next chocolate fix!
These chocolate chips help to make avoiding milk chocolates that much easier. Giving you plenty of delicious options so that you don’t have to feel like you’ve given up chocolate altogether.
