Today I will be talking about a product that I recently discovered and thought I would share with all of you.

This is a relatively new vegan product on the market and as far as I am aware not everyone has it available to them.

But if you do have access to it and have seen it at your local grocery store I think this review might be helpful to you! 

There are a lot of vegan whipping cream brands out there now, but they are not all made equal. And I had never seen real vegan whipping cream before I saw this brand. Which is why I thought it well worth talking about!

Before finding Silk dairy-free whipping cream I wasn’t even aware that they carried a vegan whip cream option. It was one of those things that I just happened up when looking for my regular vegan dairy free milk.

It caught my eye and I knew that I had to try it at least once! And I am so glad that I did!

Now that I know how it works I can try out so many more types of recipes that call for either heavy cream or whipping cream.

What are the Ingredients?

The main highlights of this vegan dairy product are that it is vegan friendly, obviously. But it is also keto friendly, non-GMO, and completely sugar free.

It is also gluten free and free of carrageenan if those are two concerning ingredients for you.

The ingredients are:

  • Filtered water
  • Coconut oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Faba bean protein
  • Guar gum
  • Sunflower lecithin 
  • Natural flavors

The description also clearly states that there are no artificial colorants or flavors added to the whipping cream.

I am not an overly health conscious individual but even I am impressed by that minimal ingredients list!

What Does it Taste Like?

The taste on its own is very mild, slightly creamy, and fresh tasting. Strangely enough it reminds me a lot of how low-fat milk tastes.

It also has just the slightest coconut flavor but that might just be my taste buds being weird, since I am sensitive to coconut.

The flavor is so mild that it will most likely disappear once added to whatever you are using it for.

How Similar is it to Real Whipping Cream?

One very important detail when it comes to a vegan dairy option like this one is how similar is it to the real thing.

This is the main question that I had in mind as well when I bought this vegan product as I am always a bit concerned about whether or not it will be worth the price.

I can’t tell you how many times I bought a specialty vegan product only to have it turn out nothing like the original!

Color

The color of this vegan whipping cream brand is very bright white. Exactly like how I remember regular whipping cream being.

This means that it won’t distort or muddy the color of what you are using it in. it will remain a beautiful bright white!

Consistency

The consistency is definitely not as thick as the real thing, it’s close but not quite there. 

This whipping cream is slightly thinner, think of the consistency of a dairy creamer. It also needs to be shaken up as there can be lumps.

Though I have yet to have any issues with the lumps as they are soft and quickly blend in with the rest of the cream.

I was also very excited to notice that it was not oily as many vegan whipped creams are! Though it contains two oils it didn’t taste or feel like it, which is a big plus, at least for me!

Does it Whip?

This is quite possibly the most important question because what is the number one reason for buying whipping cream in most instances? You want to be able to whip it!

And yes, Silk dairy-free whipping cream does indeed whip up like a dream!

This vegan product acts as it should and whips up beautifully into soft, white peaks.

It doesn’t  get to the firmness of regular whipping cream, but it still does the job and becomes a pretty sturdy whipped cream after about 5 minutes of whipping.

The addition of powdered sugar greatly helps it to stabilize and become a little firmer as well.

I have read a few reviews where some people had the cream separate when whipping but I never experienced that problem.

I probably have used about five cartons already and haven’t had any issues with curdling or separating. Even after whipping it for longer then it needed.

How Does it Hold Up Afterwards?

When I make specialty desserts I intend for them to last, so it was important to me that this cream hold up in the fridge.

And it did hold up just as well as the real thing! It lasted very well in the fridge for about 4-5 days with very minimal melting.

I assume that if it was whipped up it would only last a day to a few hours at room temperature. So, it is best to keep it refrigerated for a more stable cream.

It might also melt a bit more if it is added to something that is a bit wet like fruit or maybe even a soft pie.

Can You Freeze it?

I actually have a carton of this vegan whipping cream brand in my freezer right now as we speak.

Though I haven’t defrosted it yet, I read up on it and found that people had success with freezing it and using it as usual.

If I find that it doesn’t unthaw well for me, I will come back to this post to let you know. But I have high hopes!

How Can You Use it?

There are so many ways that you can now use this vegan dairy free cream! You can really use it in any way that you would normal whipping cream.

I haven’t experimented with it much in my recipes I admit. Mainly because I have been whipping it up to go in my favorite berry trifles!

Baking

If you have a recipe that calls for heavy cream or whipping cream you could easily use this vegan product instead.

I plan to try out some pies that call for heavy cream or whipping cream as I suspect that it will work well in those types of recipes as well.

You could even use it in making custard, puddings, or pastry cream.

Desserts

I have a few fudge recipes laying around that call for heavy cream that I have been meaning to experiment with.

This might even work in candy recipes that call for heavy cream or in some decadent caramel sauces!

The whipped cream goes beautifully in trifles, on pies, or on pancakes. You could even try it out in a frosting recipe that calls for whipped cream.

Cooking

Because this vegan product doesn’t contain sugar or have a very strong flavor you could easily use it in savory cooking as well.

Now you can replicate those creamy pasta sauces like alfredo or make extra rich cream soups. You could even get extra adventurous and use it in homemade vegan cheeses or butter!

Would I Recommend it?

I would highly recommend this vegan whipping cream brand to anyone interested in trying it out!

It checked all of the boxes that I was hoping it would when I first used it, and I never experienced any issues with it at all.

Silk dairy-free whipping cream is a great replacement for whipped cream as I never quite liked the vegan brands that came pre-whipped in the tubs. They were always a little too oily and sweet.

If this whipping cream doesn’t sound up your alley you could always try So Delicious whip cream instead. It is still a good substitute for whip cream and doesn’t require any whipping or extra work from you!

Even if you don’t want to use it to make whipped cream I think it would be worth buying just to experiment with. Especially if you like to adapt non-vegan recipes into vegan ones.

My Top Tips

I have used this vegan dairy product quite a few times by now and have managed to have success every time.

I have seen other reviews talking about curdling and separating but I have yet to have that issue.

Here are some of my top tips for whipping up a beautiful whip cream every time:

  • Add powdered sugar
  • Stop whipping once it is no longer getting firmer
  • Add ½ to 1 teaspoon of pudding mix powder to help it thicken a bit more
  • Use a hand mixer and keep it moving as you whip it
  • Store any extra whip cream in the fridge

It isn’t very often that I have almost no criticism for a product, but this is one of those amazing vegan dairy options that is worth the price!
