Vega Protein Powder Review

This review of Vega protein powders and mixes is going to cover the most important factors in choosing a vegan protein powder. Such as taste, texture, and versatility.

I am sharing what I noticed when trying out these flavors so that you can better decide which one you want to try for yourself. If you want to try either at all!

Even though Vega is a relatively affordable brand of natural protein powder, it is still a bit pricey. This is why it can be helpful to see reviews that can help you to decide which option you will like the most.

My hope is that this review can help you to decide if the Vega protein brand is a good fit for you. And if it is, which flavor you might like the most.

Read till the end to find out what the ingredients are as well as whether or not Vega protein is actually healthy.

Just as a side note I want to say that I am not being sponsored by Vega and have not been given anything for free. This is just my opinion on their products which I bought myself.

Vanilla Vega Protein Powder

I tried many vegan protein powders before I finally landed on vanilla Vegan protein powder. And let me tell you, it was a huge step up from what I had been used to.

I am not one of those people who naturally enjoys drinking smoothies. If I make a smoothie it needs to remind me more or less like a dessert in order for me to be able to enjoy it.

This type of vegan protein powder had the most natural flavor that I had tasted so far. While still being nice and sweet and very vanilla-y. It tasted the best in smoothies in comparison to the brands that I had tried prior.

Even when compared to some more expensive brands Vega seemed to just taste better in smoothies. And didn’t leave me feeling like I was drinking a protein shake.

This protein powder brand is made up of a base of pea protein, brown rice protein, and hemp protein. Making it a healthy and vegan friendly option!

Taste

Vanilla Vega protein powder has a sweet, slightly artificial vanilla flavor. Personally, I really enjoyed the sweetness and the obvious vanilla, though it may not be for everyone.

I prefer sweeter smoothies and found this to be just sweet enough to make a smoothie feel like a treat instead of a protein boost.

Texture

When you make a Vega protein shake it is pretty obvious that it contains protein powder. Vega isn’t nearly as gritty as some brands that I have tried, but it is still obvious that it is a protein powder.

I was able to ignore this, especially when making fruit smoothies. Since the grittiness became much less apparent with the texture of a fruit smoothie.

Versatility

I found vanilla Vega protein powder to be incredibly versatile. So much so that I even used it in some of my baking recipes with excellent results.

Because it is vanilla, it goes well with most smoothie recipes and can even help to camouflage more leafy smoothies. It can be added to baked goods and oatmeal as well and provides a nice vanilla flavor.

Chocolate Vega Protein Powder

This flavor of Vega protein is probably the second most popular option next to the vanilla. It is another simple flavor that is generally a crowd-pleaser and helps chocolate lovers to get by.

Though I am not a huge fan of chocolate, I do enjoy it as an occasional treat. This chocolate Vega protein powder provides a healthier option to a chocolate milkshake. Not to mention the lack of milk and the fact that it is vegan friendly!

I never tried it but I suspect that this chocolate-flavored protein would go well in a variety of baked goods. As well as in things like oatmeal and chia seed pudding.

Overall, if you are a chocolate lover, I think that this flavor would be worth giving a try. It gives you an excellent option when you are craving something sweet and chocolaty that isn’t extremely unhealthy.

Like the vanilla flavor, it is made up of a base of pea protein, brown rice protein, and hemp protein.

Taste

The chocolate flavor is a nice light chocolaty flavor that is more or less what you would expect. It isn’t overpowering but is obviously chocolate.

Like the vanilla flavor, it is slightly artificial tasting but not obviously so.

Texture

The texture is much like the vanilla again. I am sure that is because the formula between the two flavors is nearly the same.

I would go so far as to say that the grittiness is a little more obvious in the chocolate flavor. Probably because it doesn’t go as well with every smoothie recipe, so I found the texture to be more obvious.

It is also just a bit chalky, most likely as a result of the added cocoa powder, which is very powdery by nature.

Versatility

As I mentioned above, I found the chocolate Vegan protein powder to be much less versatile than the vanilla flavor.

I know that many enjoy the combination of chocolate and fruit, but it is not a favorite of mine. So, I was often stumped when it came to creating smoothies. It also didn’t pair well with stronger tasting greens such as spinach which I often include in my smoothies.

If you are wanting to drink smoothies for added fruit and vegetable servings, you would probably want to stick to vanilla protein powder. The chocolate is better designed for pure protein shakes.

Which Vega Protein Powder is Best?

If you are trying to decide which Vega protein shake flavor to go with, you are probably wondering which protein powder is the best.

The reality is that everything comes down to personal taste. I love Vega protein but I have seen many unpleasant reviews about them from people who just didn’t feel the same way.

It all comes down to personal taste and preference, which is why you will have to try this brand of vegan protein powder out for yourself. If you like both chocolate and vanilla equally, I would recommend you try the vanilla first.

In my opinion, the vanilla Vega protein powder is the best flavor because it is a pleasing vanilla flavor. As well as the fact that it is very versatile, and it can be added to just about any kind of smoothie.

If you are looking for a versatile protein powder to add a nutritional boost to your fruit or veggie smoothies. Then the vanilla flavor is going to be the best option.

If you just want to be able to make vegan chocolate protein powder shakes for added protein in your diet, then the chocolate flavor might be the best option.

Is Vega Protein Powder Good for You?

One question that is often asked when people are trying to decide on a protein brand is whether or not it is healthy.

I am no health expert myself, but I would consider Vega to be a very healthy option. Especially when you compare it to other brands that are sugary, artificial, and full of preservatives.

Vega has a limited list of ingredients from natural, plant-based sources of protein to vegetable powders and stevia for sweetness.

The only real complaint that I would have is that Vega includes artificial flavors. But most protein brands do, so it will really depend on how important that is to you.

Here are a few key benefits to using Vega protein powder:

Contains 20 Grams Protein

These two types of Vega protein contain 20 grams of protein per serving, which is nearly half the amount of protein that you need in a day! This is an amazing amount considering it is coming from natural and plant-based ingredients.

This makes Vega a great option for vegans who might not be getting enough protein through their regular diet.

Sugar and Artificial Sweetener Free

Unlike many other kinds of protein powder, Vega is free of all artificial sweeteners and sugar. Instead of being sweetened with natural stevia leaf.

I know that some people don’t like stevia, but I think that it is safe to say that stevia is far better than artificial sweeteners or sugar.

Vegan and Keto Friendly

Vega is a fully plant-based and keto-friendly protein powder brand that is free of all animal products.

It is a great option for anyone, no matter what kind of diet they follow. As it is natural and free of most common allergens.

Is Vega Protein Powder a Meal Replacement?

Vega protein can be used as a meal replacement for the most part. They have a specific blend that is advertised as a healthy meal replacement option.

Generally, I feel like a protein powder should not take the place of actual food because it just doesn’t contain the same kinds of nutrients. Not to mention the fact that a smoothie just isn’t as satisfying as a real meal.

But this protein powder can be a good option if you are going to have to eat a late meal or if you have to skip a meal for some reason.

Whether or not it is healthy to replace food with protein powder, it is still better than eating nothing at all. And it can keep you going until you are able to actually eat a real meal.

I like to drink smoothies in the afternoon as a kind of snack to keep my energy levels up until I eat lunch or dinner.

Vega Protein Recipes

Now that you have an idea of the kind of protein powder that you want to try. You can find a recipe for a delicious Vega protein shake to try out.

You obviously don’t need to follow a recipe to make a smoothie, but they can be a nice way to get ideas or inspiration.

There are some pretty amazing and creative recipes out there that are worth trying out if you are new to drinking smoothies. Or if you are like me and don’t always enjoy drinking them.

Here are a few recipes that you can try to get started:

Conclusion

I hope that this review has been helpful to you and that it has answered some of your questions.

I tried to be as unbiased as I could since I do personally like this brand, but I know that it does have its faults. And I wanted to give you the best idea of what it is like without clouding it over with my preference for it.

Let me know in the comments if you have tried Vega protein before and whether or not you liked it. Or if you have decided to try it out for yourself after reading this review!
